From Nothing to Drupal
The first step to your own WissKI is to get the latest Drupal 6 release for WissKI D6 or Drupal 7 release for WissKI D7 from drupal.org. At the time this guide was written the current version was Drupal 6.36 for WissKI D6 and 7.38 for WissKI D7, but the WissKI systems should work with any future release, too. Unpack the release and copy it to a freely chosen subdirectory of your webserver. Don’t forget the hidden .htaccess file in the drupal main directory in this process. In our example the main directory of the webserver is /srv/www/htdocs/. For more information regarding the installation process also look at the Drupal installation guide.
server-projektdb:/srv/www/htdocs # tar xvfz drupal-6.36.tar.gz
Extracting files to /srv/www/htdocs/drupal-6.36/
server-projektdb:/srv/www/htdocs # mkdir wisski-gardens
server-projektdb:/srv/www/htdocs # cd drupal-6.36/
server-projektdb:/srv/www/htdocs/drupal-6.36 # cp -R * ../wisski-gardens/
server-projektdb:/srv/www/htdocs/drupal-6.36 # cp .htaccess ../wisski-gardens/
server-projektdb:/srv/www/htdocs # cd ../wisski-gardens/
server-projektdb:/srv/www/htdocs/wisski-gardens # ls

MAINTAINERS.txt modules robots.txt sites update.php xmlrpc.php

Your directory should look similar. Now navigate with your favorite browser to the directory on your webserver. In our case this is http://wisski-gardens.gnm.de
Follow the instructions of the installation. Drupal will require access to a MySQL database. Some special remarks on the "configure site" tab: You will need to activate clean URLs in order to have WissKI up and running correctly. If you missed enabling clean URLs in the installation process you can add support for clean URLs later. Please have a look for more information on enabling clean URLs if they are not available on your system.
After you've installed Drupal you will be guided to your new Drupal system.
