WissKI shows ...
... all of its functionality in a multitude of WissKI instances used by a variety of projects and institutions. One of the latest projects using WissKI as the representation system is "Die Gesichter des Deutschen Kunstarchivs". Another representative example of a complete WissKI system is "Medienarchiv - Fränkische Tafelmalerei vor Dürer" which gives access to the contents of the interdisciplinary research project „Fränkische Tafelmalerei vor Dürer“ from 1995 to 2000.
Die Gesichter des Deutschen Kunstarchivs
This representation system can be found at http://gesichter-des-dka.gnm.de. It is the first virtual exhibition of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nürnberg (GNM) and was launched in October 2014. The virtual exhibition provides in twelve chapters 460 digital exhibits based on photographs of the Deutsches Kunstarchiv (DKA). They show portraits, but also situational images of about 250 persons represented by estate at the DKA. However, not all of these persons are recorded. The records span from ca. 1870 to the 1990s.
Every individual photo has its own webpage, where it is displayed with details of the photographer, like the place, year, photographic technique and the inventory portfolio to which it belongs, as well as a short description of the photograph and of the other material held in the portfolio. As the GNM is a German museum, the data are provided in German language only, but there is a help section available in English. The arrows “vor” (forwards) and “zurück” (back) allow you to navigate through the individual portraits within a chapter. There are also links to the “Themen” (Themes) menu, to overviews (Bestandsübersichten) of the Deutsches Kunstarchiv catalogue, and to the personal database records for the photographer and the portrait subject.
Clicking on the picture opens a close-up view with a zoom function provided by the iip viewer module of WissKI (see figure). The personal database record for each individual in the exhibition gives information on dates of birth and death, profession, family members etc., and a brief biography. To the left there may be thumbnail pictures either of photographs taken by the person in question, or in which he or she is portrayed. Clicking on a picture will take you to its own webpage. Clearly marked identifiers for Linked Open Data lead to external portals like Deutsche Nationalbibliothek or Wikimedia Commons etc. where further information about a featured person can be found.
Furthermore, characteristic of every WissKI instance, there are two search options: a full-text search under “Suche” (search) or a “Detailsuche” (advanced search), where specified fields in the archive’s database may be searched. The form is based on established Web Opac forms with all common functions of concatenation of search parameters.
Medienarchiv - Fränkische Tafelmalerei vor Dürer
The WissKI instance Medienarchiv - Fränkische Tafelmalerei vor Dürer gives access to the contents of the interdisciplinary research project „Fränkische Tafelmalerei vor Dürer“ from 1995 to 2000. In the scope of that project ca. 820 Franconian panel paintings of the second half of the 15th century were analysed. In 2012/2013 a part of the project material was digitized, long term saved, semantically enriched and made available for international research by establishing the Internet Portal.
You can explore the data set by clicking "Stöbern" and selecting a category like "Dias" (slides) or "Dokumente" (documents) etc. As the GNM is a German museum, the items are provided in German language only. After selecting the category a list of available objects can be navigated. Feel free to explore any object of the data set. Moreover, the user may find an object by means of a form based search engine when clicking on "Suchen".
